Why Fall Is the Best Time for a Furnace Upgrade: Benefits of Energy Efficiency Before Winter Hits

As the vibrant leaves fall and temperatures cool, homeowners often turn their attention to preparing for winter. For those with an older furnace, fall is an ideal time to consider upgrading before heavy winter heating demands kick in. Upgrading your furnace now not only ensures your home stays warm during the coldest months, but it also brings benefits in energy efficiency, cost savings, and comfort. Here’s why fall is the perfect time to make the switch—and how Integrity Trade Services can help.

1. Improved Energy Efficiency

Older furnaces tend to be less efficient, especially if they’ve been running for over a decade. As furnaces age, their efficiency drops, meaning they consume more energy to produce the same amount of heat. Replacing an outdated furnace with a high-efficiency model can improve heating efficiency by up to 30%, translating to immediate energy savings.

Example: Sarah, a homeowner, noticed her energy bills steadily increasing each winter. By upgrading to an energy-efficient furnace in October, she avoided potential wintertime breakdowns and saw savings on her November heating bill. Over time, her investment in a high-efficiency furnace paid for itself through reduced monthly utility costs.

2. Lower Utility Bills

A more efficient furnace doesn’t just benefit the environment; it also keeps money in your pocket. High-efficiency furnaces are designed to convert more fuel into usable heat, which leads to lower energy consumption and, ultimately, lower monthly bills—especially valuable during winter when heating costs can skyrocket.

Example: A family spending $200 monthly on heating from December through February could see a 20% reduction by switching to an efficient model, potentially saving around $120 over three winter months. With these savings year after year, the furnace eventually pays for itself, making it a smart financial decision.

3. Enhanced Home Comfort

Modern furnaces are designed for precision, meaning they can maintain a more consistent temperature throughout your home. Many older models tend to produce fluctuating temperatures, leading to cold and hot spots in different areas.

Example: Mike and Linda’s old furnace created uneven heating, leaving their bedrooms chilly on the coldest nights. After upgrading, they found that the consistent, balanced warmth of their new system made their entire home feel more comfortable and cozy.

4. Better Indoor Air Quality

New furnace models come with advanced filtration systems that trap dust, allergens, and other airborne particles, helping to improve indoor air quality—especially valuable in winter when windows and doors stay closed.

Example: Imagine a household with a young child who suffers from allergies. By upgrading to a furnace with advanced filtration, the family reduced the dust and allergens circulating in their home, immediately improving their child’s comfort and reducing allergy symptoms through the winter.

5. Access to Rebates and Financing Options

Governments and utility companies often encourage homeowners to adopt energy-efficient solutions by offering rebates or financing incentives. These offers can make an upgrade more affordable, especially when combined with seasonal discounts.

Example: A couple in Wichita upgraded their furnace and received a rebate through a local energy provider. Combined with seasonal promotions, they paid less than anticipated, allowing them to make other efficiency-enhancing upgrades to their home.

6. Peace of Mind for Winter

Upgrading a furnace in fall, rather than in the middle of winter, helps homeowners avoid the stress of an unexpected breakdown during a cold snap. An aging furnace is more likely to fail when it’s working hardest, which in Wichita’s winter could leave a home uncomfortably cold while waiting for emergency repairs.

Example: A family experienced a mid-winter breakdown last year, enduring a couple of cold days while their furnace was replaced. This year, they chose to upgrade in October, ensuring a warm and worry-free winter.

I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. I grew up around construction, remodeling, maintenance and all of that, my dad was one of those fix anything types and so we never called someone to come work on the house. I also was able to tag along with my dad when he had a job of his own to complete that had to do with construction or remodel or repair. Throughout high school and college I worked in the trades doing everything from carpentry to concrete in both residential and commercial applications. I also ran my own cabinet shop while in high school and college and knew that I wanted to work for myself and go out on my own in business, I graduated with a Bachelors of science in business administration and small busienss management in 2014. I met my wife Danielle while working maintenance for our churches summer camp, Danielle and her family were all from Wichita Kansas. After graduation I married Danielle and we moved to Wichita Kansas to start our own journey. I started Wichita Home works in 2015 with just one main floor kitchen remodel and one guy doing the work, it went very well and the rest is history. We built some key relationships along the way while learning and building wichita home works, we spun off quite a few businesses and divisions such as Integrity trade services, and complete concrete solutions, mainly out of necessity. We found it increasingly difficult to find trades that would live up to our high expectations and therefore we decided to do it ourself.
