Project Overview

Wichita Home Works completed this full home remodel and addition in Wichita, Kansas for homeowners who wanted to dramatically improve the way their home looked, functioned, and supported daily life.

This was a large multi-area project that touched nearly every major part of the property. The work included a new home addition, main-floor layout changes, a kitchen remodel, laundry room relocation and update, master bedroom addition, master bathroom, master closet, workshop, garage improvements, sunroom updates, exterior siding and paint, roofing, deck work, basement remodeling, second-floor updates, septic work, greenhouse electrical, and a backyard shed.

The finished home feels more complete, more connected, and much better suited for long-term living. The remodel created a larger main floor, a more functional kitchen and laundry area, a private master suite, refreshed bathrooms, updated flooring, improved exterior finishes, a more useful garage and workshop, and better outdoor living connections.

The overall style is warm transitional with traditional home character. The project uses warm oak trim, Dove shaker cabinetry, Snowfall granite, ivory picket tile, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, Marianas Oak LVP flooring, Moth Wing exterior paint, Dark Bronze trim, TimberTech decking, and classic residential detailing to update the home without stripping away its familiar character.

The Homeowner’s Vision

The goal was to make the existing home work better from top to bottom.

The homeowners wanted more space, better flow, updated finishes, improved comfort, and a more useful connection between the main living spaces, garage, workshop, sunroom, and outdoor areas. Instead of focusing on only one room, this project addressed the home as a whole.

The main level needed a more functional kitchen, laundry room, dining connection, living area, hall bathroom, and updated flooring. The west-side addition created space for a new master suite and workshop. The garage needed larger openings and better storage. The exterior needed a more cohesive refresh with siding, paint, gutters, windows, roofing, and deck updates.

Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the addition, kitchen layout, laundry room, master suite, bathroom layouts, workshop, garage improvements, window and door selections, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, backsplash tile, Onyx shower selections, exterior colors, deck materials, closet shelving, and overall finish direction.

The final design gave the homeowners a much more usable home while keeping the finished look warm, comfortable, and connected to the original property.

Scope of Work

Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through concrete, framing, mechanical systems, exterior finishes, interior finishes, final cleaning, inspections, punch-list completion, and closeout.

The project included:

Whole-Home Demolition and Preparation

The remodel began with extensive removal work across the home.

Wichita Home Works removed existing baseboards, door casing, window casing, carpet, kitchen flooring, bathroom flooring, kitchen backsplash, kitchen countertops, kitchen cabinets, desk cabinetry, kitchen soffits, pantry doors and shelving, bay window framing, selected walls between kitchen and dining spaces, the wood-burning stove and interior flue, garage window materials, garage door components, garage man door materials, attic floor sections above the garage, and the existing shop structure.

This early phase opened the home for a much larger transformation. It allowed the main-floor layout, kitchen, laundry room, addition, garage, workshop, master suite, and exterior improvements to be rebuilt in a more intentional way.

Concrete, Foundation and Addition Work

The project included a major concrete and foundation package.

Wichita Home Works coordinated excavation, grading, new footings, slab preparation, a driveway turnaround, greenhouse slab area, sunroom steps and landing, workshop grade beam, crawl space work for the master bedroom, sunroom slab infill, garage opening concrete adjustments, and exterior flatwork.

The addition required footings, framing support, slab work, crawl space coordination, and careful connection to the existing home. The garage opening was expanded to support a larger overhead door, and the garage man door opening was widened to create better access between the garage and workshop.

These structural and concrete improvements gave the home the physical foundation for the larger remodel.

Framing and Addition Construction

The addition and interior remodel required extensive framing.

The main-floor framing included changes between the living room and dining room, removal of the kitchen-to-dining wall, framing where the bay window was removed, new window openings, a new kitchen patio door opening, new laundry room walls, and a pocket door for the laundry room.

The west-side addition created the new master bedroom, master bathroom, master closet, hallway, hallway bathroom, and workshop. The addition included exterior wall framing, interior wall framing, roof trusses, soffit and fascia framing, sheathing, pocket door framing, closet planning, and workshop access details.

The garage framing included widening the overhead garage door opening, installing a new header, closing in the former garage window, creating new garage-to-house steps, widening the garage man door to the workshop, and adding attic floor and hanging storage shelves.

Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen was one of the central parts of the remodel.

The old kitchen layout was removed and rebuilt with new custom-built shaker cabinetry in a Dove finish. The new kitchen included island cabinets, north wall cabinetry, base and upper cabinets, painted floating shelves above the sink area, a trash pullout, customer-supplied appliances, and a new layout designed to work with the updated dining and laundry room flow.

The countertops were finished with Snowfall granite and a demi-bullnose edge. A white single undermount kitchen sink was installed, along with the customer-supplied kitchen faucet and drain trim.

The backsplash used Omni Glossy Picket Mosaic Ivory tile installed vertically to the ceiling, with Pewter grout and Stone Grey textured edging. The vertical picket tile helped give the kitchen a brighter, more custom look while still feeling soft and timeless.

Laundry Room and Hall Bathroom

The remodel created a more functional laundry room and updated the nearby hall bathroom.

The laundry room included new framing, drywall, cabinetry, washer and dryer connections, countertop space, a shelf above the washing machine, closet rod storage, and a pocket door. Snowfall granite was also used in the laundry room, tying it back to the kitchen.

The hall bathroom received a custom-built Dove finish vanity cabinet, Onyx Latte countertop with a white rectangle wave-style sink, tile backsplash, new trim, door, plumbing fixtures, and updated finish details.

Together, these rooms helped the main level work better for daily routines.

Master Suite Addition

The new master suite was a major part of the addition.

The project added a master bedroom, master bathroom, and master closet. The master bedroom received new windows, updated flooring, trim, paint, electrical, ceiling fan wiring, and a layout connected to the new bathroom and closet.

The master closet was built with custom shelving, shoe shelving racks, closet rods, dividers, and organized storage zones. This gave the homeowners a more complete suite instead of simply adding bedroom square footage.

The master suite addition created a private daily-use area with better storage, better bathroom access, and a more comfortable layout.

Master Bathroom

The new master bathroom included a double vanity, Onyx shower, toilet closet, custom finishes, and coordinated trim.

The master vanity received custom-built shaker cabinetry in a Dove finish with an Onyx Latte double-sink countertop. The backsplash used Omni Glossy Picket Mosaic Ivory tile in a horizontal pattern with Pewter grout and Stone Grey edging.

The master shower included an Onyx Latte low-profile pan, Onyx Latte smooth wall panels, a Boulder niche, Boulder enclosed corner bench, Boulder Liberty towel bar, oil-rubbed bronze drain, and factory color-matched caulking.

A frameless shower door with sidelites, Design Line header, clear tempered glass, and oil-rubbed bronze hardware completed the shower. The result is a durable, clean, and comfortable master bathroom designed for everyday use.

Workshop and Garage Improvements

The west-side addition included a workshop, and the garage was updated to support the new layout.

The workshop received framing, windows, drywall, insulation, electrical, HVAC support, trim, paint, baseboards, and a connection to the garage. A universal attic ladder and crawl space access panel were installed in the workshop.

The garage was improved with a wider 18-foot overhead garage door, new garage door tracking, a new LiftMaster belt-drive opener, new sills, a larger opening from the garage to the workshop, drywall work, insulation, new steps into the house, attic floor OSB, and hanging storage shelves.

The garage and workshop updates gave the home more utility, storage, access, and flexibility.

Sunroom, Living Room and Dining Room Updates

The main-floor living spaces were refreshed so the addition and kitchen remodel would feel connected.

The living room and dining room received layout changes, drywall work, updated ceiling texture, paint, new LVP flooring, oak trim, and window and door improvements.

The sunroom received new tile flooring, window replacement, paint, door updates, and exterior cedar awning work. The sunroom flooring used Veneto Noce 12×24 tile, installed over Ditra underlayment. This gave the space a durable and finished surface suited to indoor-outdoor use.

The dining room also received a new window package and stronger connection to the kitchen through the wall opening and new finishes.

Second-Floor Remodel

The second floor was refreshed as part of the whole-home project.

Wichita Home Works removed and replaced selected bedroom doors, bathroom doors, bifold closet doors, door casing, window casing, shelving, carpet, bathroom vanity components, bathroom toilet, and bathroom flooring.

The second-floor bathroom received a custom Dove finish vanity, Onyx Latte single-sink vanity top, Onyx Latte makeup desk countertop, horizontal Omni Ivory picket backsplash, updated plumbing, new toilet, mirror, hardware, and accessories.

The second-floor bedrooms and bathroom received Coretec Marianas Oak LVP flooring, updated doors, new casing, closet shelving where planned, ceiling fans, lighting updates, paint, and trim details.

Basement Remodel

The basement was also updated as part of the project.

The basement scope included removal of existing shelving, pegboard, selected drywall, framing changes, bedroom door replacement, bathroom updates, mechanical room door replacement, workout room updates, under-stair storage updates, and bathroom remodeling.

The basement bathroom received an Onyx Latte neo-angle shower, Onyx wall panels, Liberty corner caddy, shower bar, frameless neo-angle shower glass, custom Dove finish vanity, Onyx Latte vanity top, backsplash tile, updated plumbing fixtures, toilet, mirror, hardware, and accessories.

The basement workout room and bathroom received Coretec Marianas Oak LVP flooring. The basement living room, bedroom, stairs, and landing received new carpet and cushion.

Windows, Doors and Storm Doors

The project included extensive window and door work.

New windows and patio doors were installed in the addition, kitchen, living room, sunroom, dining room, hallway, upstairs bedrooms, upstairs bathroom, master bedroom, master bathroom, and workshop. The window package was revised from the original selection to sandstone-colored windows.

The home also received new patio doors, a new kitchen-to-garage door, a new double steel door from the garage to the workshop, and storm doors at the front entry and sunroom.

The new windows and doors helped improve natural light, function, comfort, and the overall exterior appearance.

Exterior Remodel

The exterior remodel helped the addition and existing home feel cohesive.

Wichita Home Works removed older siding, fascia, trim, and selected soffit materials, then installed LP SmartSide siding, LP Smart fascia, LP Smart trim, and exterior details around the new and existing windows.

The exterior was painted Sherwin-Williams Moth Wing on the siding and soffit, with Dark Bronze trim and fascia. Exterior doors, including the garage door, were painted Sherwin-Williams Smokehouse.

The addition roof received GAF Weathered Wood shingles, slant-back vents, synthetic felt, flashing, pipe boots, drip edge, and related roofing details.

Dark Bronze gutters and downspouts were installed, along with black splash guards.

Deck and Outdoor Updates

The project included a new deck designed to connect the home to the outdoor areas.

The deck was framed with treated posts, treated ledger, flashing, treated lumber, centered stairs, TimberTech Reserve Dark Roast deck boards, TimberTech Dark Roast fascia, black DeckPro Prestige railing, black aluminum posts, and a drink rail detail.

The project also included chain link fence work on the east and west sides of the house with black 4-foot fencing, a single gate, and a double gate.

These exterior updates improved the home’s outdoor living, access, and backyard use.

Greenhouse Electrical and Septic Work

The project included specialized support systems beyond the visible remodel.

Greenhouse electrical included a 40-amp circuit, subpanel, two 20-amp circuits, weather-resistant outlets, a fan box, and power for a rear exhaust fan.

Septic work included a dual septic tank, laterals, Schedule 40 pipe and fittings, filter fabric, and permitting.

These scopes show how extensive the project was. It was not only a cosmetic remodel; it included major functional systems across the property.

Backyard Shed

A backyard shed was also planned for the property.

The shed layout included a 10-foot by 16-foot footprint with approximately 143 square feet of space, 8-foot sidewalls, a 6:12 roof pitch, double doors, windows, and a 14-inch storage shelf.

This added a practical storage solution for the backyard while maintaining a design that fit the overall property improvement.

HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing

The mechanical scope was extensive.

HVAC work included replacing the existing geothermal system with an upgraded 4-ton Bosch geothermal system, adding zone dampers for the upstairs and new addition, adding ductwork for the new addition, adding ductwork for the addition bathroom, and installing an Aprilaire 2000 series air filter.

Electrical work supported the master bedroom, master bathroom, closet, half bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, workshop, sunroom, garage heater circuit, greenhouse power, lighting, outlets, fans, appliances, and new circuits.

Plumbing work included the laundry area, kitchen sink relocation, dishwasher and refrigerator lines, powder bathroom, master bathroom, Onyx shower, basement bathroom, second-floor bathroom, septic system, toilets, vanities, shower valves, and finish fixtures.

These behind-the-scenes systems helped the remodeled home function as well as it looks.

Insulation, Drywall and Paint

The remodel included insulation across existing areas, the new addition, the workshop, garage, addition floors, blocked ceilings, garage attic, and house addition attic.

Drywall work included main-floor layout changes, kitchen and laundry room ceilings and walls, new addition walls and ceilings, workshop walls and ceilings, garage drywall, basement repairs, second-floor patching, and smooth wall finishes.

Ceilings received knockdown texture in several remodeled areas. Walls were painted Sherwin-Williams Bungalow Beige through the main remodeled spaces, addition, second floor, and basement. The workshop and garage were painted standard white. New trim and windows were stained to match the existing wood tone as closely as possible.

Flooring

Flooring was coordinated throughout the home.

The main floor and addition received Coretec Plus Enhanced Plank Marianas Oak LVP through the living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, hallway, hallway bathroom, master bedroom, master bathroom, and master closet.

The entryway and sunroom received Veneto Noce 12×24 tile over Ditra underlayment.

The upstairs stairs, landing, and hallway received Contemporary Way Ice Cap carpet with Valencia Rubber XD cushion. The basement stairs, landing, living room, bedroom, and under-stair area received carpet and cushion.

The second-floor bedrooms and bathroom also received Coretec Marianas Oak LVP.

This flooring plan helped unify the remodel while giving each area the right material for its use.

Design and Finish Details

This project has a warm transitional style with traditional character.

The home keeps a comfortable, familiar feel through oak trim, stained casing, bronze hardware, warm wall color, Marianas Oak flooring, and classic exterior colors. At the same time, it feels much more current through open sightlines, new cabinetry, updated tile, modernized bathrooms, new windows, refreshed exterior materials, and a larger master suite.

The kitchen has a clean transitional look with Dove shaker cabinetry, Snowfall granite, vertical ivory picket tile, floating shelves, and a new island. The bathrooms continue the coordinated style with Dove vanities, Onyx Latte surfaces, picket backsplash tile, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and updated fixtures.

The exterior feels refreshed but not overly modern. Moth Wing siding, Dark Bronze trim, Smokehouse doors, Weathered Wood roofing, LP SmartSide materials, and TimberTech Dark Roast decking create a grounded and cohesive look.

The finished home feels like a carefully updated version of itself, not a remodel that ignores the original character.

Construction Story

This project began with a large goal: transform an existing Wichita home into a more functional, more comfortable, and more complete property.

The early work focused on demolition, layout changes, excavation, concrete, and framing. Removing the old shop, opening the kitchen and dining room, preparing the bay window area, widening garage openings, and building the new addition created the foundation for the entire remodel.

As framing progressed, the new shape of the home became clearer. The addition added the master suite, workshop, hallway, bathroom areas, and new roofline. Inside, the kitchen, laundry room, dining room, living room, sunroom, second floor, and basement all moved through their own transformation.

The exterior work tied the old and new together. Siding, roofing, windows, doors, paint, gutters, deck work, and fencing helped the property feel unified rather than pieced together.

Inside, the remodel came to life through cabinetry, countertops, backsplash tile, Onyx showers, LVP flooring, tile, carpet, trim, paint, closet shelving, doors, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and final hardware.

As the project moved into the final phase, Wichita Home Works focused on the details that make a large remodel feel complete: screens, exterior cedar slats, final paint and stain refinements, cabinet touch-ups, door adjustments, cleaning, final inspections, pickup, and walkthrough preparation.

The homeowners were extremely happy with the completed work and excited to share their recommendation with family and friends. The finished project shows what is possible when a large remodel is managed as one coordinated design-build process.
