Wichita Home Works completed this master bathroom remodel in Wichita, Kansas for homeowners who wanted to replace a dated bathroom layout with a brighter, cleaner, and more custom space.

The original bathroom had a large built-in tub, separate shower, long vanity, carpeted bathroom areas, older closet doors, and a layout that no longer matched the way the homeowners wanted to use the room. The remodel removed the tub and reworked the space around a larger walk-in shower, new vanity cabinetry, quartz countertops, lighted mirrors, updated flooring, a new obscure-glass window, and a more polished water closet and closet connection.

The finished bathroom feels dramatically more open and current. The shower now serves as the main feature of the room, with grey tile, a blue accent band, pebble shower floor, corner bench, shampoo niches, and a new transom-style window that brings natural light into the space while preserving privacy.

The Homeowner’s Vision

The goal was to create a master bathroom that felt updated, open, and highly functional. The homeowners wanted to move away from the older tub-centered layout and create a stronger shower-focused design.

The new plan needed to improve the flow between the master bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet, water closet, vanity wall, and shower area. It also needed to create a cleaner visual style with modern surfaces, light walls, grey flooring, custom tile, and a more intentional vanity layout.

Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the new bathroom layout, shower footprint, window replacement, water closet wall changes, vanity design, countertop tower, closet door updates, lighting, mirrors, tile selections, plumbing fixture placement, flooring, paint colors, and final finish details.

The finished design created a more open master bathroom with a large walk-in shower, custom vanity, updated water closet, improved closet access, and a bright, coordinated finish palette.

Scope of Work

Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through framing, window installation, mechanical updates, tile, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, paint, finish work, final cleaning, and warranty follow-up.

Demolition and Bathroom Preparation

The remodel began with a full reset of the existing bathroom. Wichita Home Works removed the toilet, water closet tile and underlayment, bathroom and closet carpet, baseboards, casing, doors, bathroom accessories, vanity mirror, faucets, sinks, vanity top, vanity cabinetry, tub tile, tub faucet, bathtub, shower door, shower fixtures, shower walls, shower pan, existing window, and selected drywall and framing.

The wall between the water closet and tub area was removed and reframed to support the new layout. The vanity soffit was removed to create a cleaner, more open look at the cabinet wall. The closet openings were also adjusted to accommodate the new customer-provided metal bifold doors.

This early phase created the opportunity to completely rethink the bathroom instead of simply updating finishes in the same layout.

Framing, Window and Exterior Work

A major part of the remodel was creating the new shower and window layout.

Wichita Home Works reframed the existing window opening for a 48-inch by 24-inch Quaker V200 white vinyl window with tempered obscure glass, Low-E coating, and argon gas. The exterior was rebuilt around the new window with OSB sheathing, house wrap, LP Smart Trim, Hardie stucco panel, and paint matched to the existing exterior.

Inside the bathroom, new framing created the walk-in shower layout, shower plumbing wall, water closet changes, and closet door openings. The shower was designed with a right-turn entry, corner bench, niches, accent tile, and a new transom-style window to bring light into the shower area.

Electrical, Lighting and Ventilation

The remodel included updated lighting and ventilation throughout the bathroom.

Electrical work included three LED puck lights in the main bathroom area, one LED puck light in the shower, one LED puck light in the water closet, outlets for two customer-provided lighted mirrors, GFCI outlets at the double vanity, and updated switches and outlets to match the new finish package.

The bathroom also received upgraded exhaust fans for the water closet and shower area. This helped support the new layout and improve the comfort and performance of the remodeled space.

Plumbing and Shower Fixtures

Plumbing work supported the new shower, vanity, and toilet layout.

The shower was roughed in for a new drain location, diverter, shower head, and Delta Velum stainless shower trim. The vanity wall was roughed in for two sinks and two faucets, and the bathroom received a new American Standard ADA-height elongated toilet with a slow-close seat.

The vanity faucets were Delta Velum single-handle bathroom faucets in stainless, giving the vanity a clean and contemporary look.

Drywall, Ceiling Texture and Paint

Wichita Home Works prepared the new and existing framing for drywall, installed new drywall at the ceiling and wall areas affected by the layout changes, installed moisture-resistant board where needed around the shower, finished the drywall smooth, skim coated the existing ceiling texture, and applied new knockdown texture.

The walls were painted Sherwin-Williams Snowbound in an eggshell finish. The ceiling was finished in flat white ceiling paint, and the baseboards, casing, and water closet shelves were painted Sherwin-Williams High Reflective White in a semi-gloss finish.

This soft white palette helped the room feel brighter and gave the tile and vanity finishes room to stand out.

Custom Tile Shower

The custom shower became the centerpiece of the remodel.

Wichita Home Works removed the lowered subfloor section from the former sunken tub area, installed new floor structure, added new subfloor, built a custom mud shower pan, installed Schluter waterproofing components, set a shower curb, prepared the walls with GoBoard shower board, sealed the shower system, and built two 12-inch by 16-inch shower niches.

The shower floor was finished with Bati Orient grey reconstituted pebble mosaic tile. The shower walls were finished with Emser Cabo Ocean 12×12 tile in a 50/50 brick joint pattern. Glazzio Frothy Swirls Azulejo Art tile was installed as a blue accent band and in the backs of the shampoo niches.

A Quartz Calacatta Miraggio corner shower bench adds a clean, durable seating area and ties the shower back to the vanity countertops.

Vanity, Countertops and Storage

The new vanity wall added both style and storage.

The vanity cabinetry uses Koch Classic Mesa full-overlay doors in a Fog painted finish. The layout includes full-length double doors below each sink, a soft-close three-drawer center section, and a countertop tower with a single door, crown molding, and a color-matched finish.

The countertops are Quartz Calacatta Miraggio with two white rectangle undermount sinks, a double roundover edge, and backsplash pieces on each side of the tower.

The water closet received five custom floating shelves built from paint-grade materials. These shelves add practical storage and help the water closet feel more complete.

Flooring, Closet Doors and Trim

The bathroom, water closet, and master closet received Paramount LVT Rigid Concorde Grey flooring. The floor tile look gives the space a modern grey foundation while offering a durable surface for daily use.

The closet openings were updated with customer-provided metal bifold doors, often described as phone booth-style doors. Wichita Home Works adjusted the openings, installed jamb extensions, added trim, and integrated the new doors into the finished bathroom design.

Trim carpentry included new baseboards, casing, closet trim, doorway trim, cabinet base shoe, and paint-grade finishing throughout the bathroom and closet areas.

Finish Details

Final finish work included installation of two customer-provided backlit vanity mirrors, Delta Velum towel bars, a stainless tissue holder, satin nickel cabinet tab pulls, faucet trim, shower trim, vanity plumbing, toilet, floor register, paint touch-ups, caulking, and final cleaning.

The finish selections created a bright and contemporary look with white walls, grey flooring, Fog cabinetry, stainless fixtures, quartz surfaces, and a vivid blue tile accent in the shower.

Design and Finish Details

This project has a contemporary spa-inspired style.

The remodel uses a clean, cool palette with Snowbound walls, High Reflective White trim, Fog painted cabinetry, Concorde Grey flooring, Calacatta Miraggio quartz, stainless fixtures, and grey shower tile.

The blue Glazzio Frothy Swirls accent tile adds personality and movement to the shower. It gives the bathroom a memorable custom detail without overwhelming the space. The same blue accent appears in the shower niches, making the feature feel intentional and connected.

The new obscure-glass transom window brings natural light into the shower while maintaining privacy. Combined with the LED lighting and lighter wall color, the room feels much brighter than the original bathroom.

Construction Story

After completion, Wichita Home Works also returned for a simple warranty adjustment at the shower handle, tightening and reviewing the set screw so the homeowners understood how the fixture worked.
