Project Overview
Wichita Home Works completed this Lamp Circle master bathroom remodel in Wichita, Kansas for a homeowner who wanted to turn an older bathroom layout into a cleaner, more useful, and more modern daily-use space.
The original bathroom included a jacuzzi tub, separate shower, older vanity, single vanity light, toilet topper, existing flooring, and limited storage. The remodel removed the tub and old shower, then redesigned the room around a larger tile shower, new double vanity, added linen cabinet, updated toilet topper, new flooring, new lighting, new ventilation, and a darker contemporary finish palette.
The finished bathroom uses a compact footprint efficiently. The plan shows the original master bathroom at approximately 8 feet 3 inches by 8 feet 3 inches, with the remodeled layout organized around a new shower area, double vanity, toilet, linen cabinet, and added storage.
The overall style is contemporary transitional. The gray tile, metallic accent ribbon, black shower drain, matte black fixtures, Manhattan Gray quartz, Repose Gray cabinetry, and Arctic Glacier flooring give the bathroom a clean, current look while keeping the layout practical for everyday use.
The Homeowner’s Vision
The goal was to remove the dated tub-and-shower arrangement and create a more functional master bathroom centered around a larger custom shower.
The homeowner wanted better lighting, improved ventilation, a new double vanity, more storage, a linen cabinet, a refreshed floor, and a shower that felt more custom than the original layout. The design also needed to work within a relatively compact bathroom footprint while still making the space feel more open and better organized.
Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the shower concept, vanity layout, linen cabinet location, toilet topper cabinet, shower niches, shower bench, tile layout, accent ribbon, plumbing changes, lighting updates, paint colors, flooring, countertop selection, and final accessory placement.
The final design created a master bathroom that feels more polished, more organized, and much more useful for daily routines.
Scope of Work
Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through plumbing, electrical, drywall, shower tile, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, paint, final accessories, cleaning, and closeout.
The project included:
Demolition and Bathroom Preparation
The remodel began by removing the existing shower, shower door, shower faucet, jacuzzi tub, tub faucet, jacuzzi tub base, vanity backsplash, vanity faucets, vanity top, vanity cabinet, vanity mirror, vanity light, toilet topper, baseboard, trim, and flooring.
The existing toilet was removed and saved for reinstallation. This allowed the remodel to focus investment on the shower, vanity, storage, flooring, lighting, and finish upgrades that would make the biggest difference.
Once the old tub, shower, and vanity area were removed, the room was opened up for the new shower location, new cabinetry, updated plumbing, new lighting, and new flooring.
Tub-to-Shower Conversion
The biggest layout change was removing the jacuzzi tub and using that area to support a new custom tile shower.
Instead of keeping a separate tub and smaller shower, the new design created one larger shower feature. The shower concept shows an approximately 5-foot by 2-foot-11-inch shower with a corner bench, multiple niches, and tile carried to the ceiling.
This change made the bathroom more practical for daily use. It also gave the room a stronger visual focal point and allowed the shower to become the main feature of the remodel.
Custom Tile Shower
The new shower was built with GoBoard backer board, Schluter shower pan, Schluter curb, three shower niches, a corner bench, waterproofing preparation, and a detailed tile layout.
The shower walls were finished with Brook 12×24 Graphite tile carried to the ceiling. A horizontal accent ribbon in Metallix Parallel Metal Mosaic Perseus runs through the shower, adding texture and contrast. The same metallic mosaic tile was used in the shower niches, helping the storage areas feel integrated into the overall design.
The shower pan used Brook 2×2 Mosaic Silver tile with Silver grout. A black shower drain and Dark Anthracite textured jolly edging completed the shower tile package.
The finished shower feels modern, durable, and much more custom than the original shower and tub setup.
Shower Niches and Bench
Storage and comfort were important parts of the shower design.
The shower included two 12×16 niches and one 8×16 niche, giving the homeowner multiple built-in storage locations for shower products. The design renderings show the niches integrated into the accent ribbon area so they feel planned rather than added as an afterthought.
A corner bench was added to the shower, finished with the same Brook Graphite tile used on the shower walls. This gave the shower a more comfortable and finished feel while keeping the layout efficient.
Plumbing Updates
The plumbing scope supported the new shower location, new vanity, and existing toilet reset.
The existing shower plumbing was removed, and the former tub plumbing was adapted to serve the new shower valve location. The tub drain was also changed to support the new tile shower drain layout.
The new double vanity received two vanity drains and two customer-provided vanity faucets with drain kits. The existing toilet was reset in the finished bathroom.
Customer-provided shower faucet and valve components were installed as part of the final shower package. These fixtures helped complete the modern look of the shower and vanity area.
Electrical, Lighting and Ventilation
Lighting and ventilation were improved as part of the remodel.
A new exhaust fan was installed and vented to the exterior through the roof. This helped support better moisture control in the updated bathroom.
Electrical work included replacing the existing vanity outlet with a new GFCI outlet, adding an LED puck light above the shower, roughing in two new vanity lights, changing the switch setup from a double-gang to a triple-gang configuration, replacing the remaining vanity outlet, and installing new white switches, outlets, and plates.
Two customer-provided vanity lights were installed, replacing the previous single vanity light setup. The added shower light and separate vanity lighting made the bathroom brighter and more functional.
Drywall and Paint
Drywall was installed where the previous shower had been removed and where new wall preparation was needed. Moisture-resistant board was included where required for the shower installation.
The new drywall was taped, mudded, and smooth finished. Light drywall patching was completed in selected existing wall areas so the finished bathroom would feel clean and cohesive.
The bathroom walls were painted Mindful Gray by Behr, and the baseboard and casing were painted Repose Gray by Behr. This soft gray paint palette tied into the cabinetry, tile, quartz, and flooring selections.
Vanity, Linen Cabinet and Toilet Topper
The bathroom received a new Bridgewood Painted Maple double vanity in Repose Gray with Portland-style doors.
A matching Bridgewood Painted Maple linen cabinet was installed to add much-needed storage. The linen cabinet included crown molding at the top, making it feel like a built-in part of the bathroom rather than a loose storage piece.
A matching Bridgewood toilet topper cabinet was also installed above the toilet, giving the bathroom additional storage while keeping the design consistent.
Together, the vanity, linen cabinet, and toilet topper turned the compact bathroom into a more organized and finished space.
Countertops and Sinks
The vanity received Manhattan Gray quartz with an eased edge.
Two white rectangular sinks were installed, giving the vanity a clean and modern look. A matching 4-inch Manhattan Gray quartz backsplash was also installed.
The darker quartz works well with the Repose Gray cabinetry, gray shower tile, metallic shower accent, and matte black fixtures. It gives the vanity area a grounded, polished appearance.
LVP Flooring
The master bathroom floor was finished with Adura Rigid Rectangle Painted Bevel Arctic Glacier 12×24 LVP flooring.
This flooring gives the bathroom a durable, water-resistant surface with a gray-and-white stone-look pattern. It also brightens the compact space and balances the darker Graphite shower tile and Manhattan Gray countertop.
A matching transition was installed between the existing master bedroom flooring and the new bathroom floor.
Trim and Finish Carpentry
New colonial door casing and baseboard were installed as part of the finish package.
Finish carpentry also included cabinet hardware installation, two customer-provided vanity mirrors, two towel rings, two towel bars, two robe hooks, and a toilet paper holder.
These finishing details helped the room feel complete and ready for daily use.
Design and Finish Details
This bathroom has a contemporary transitional style.
The shower is the strongest design feature. Brook Graphite wall tile gives it a clean, modern feel, while the Metallix mosaic ribbon adds movement and visual interest. The black drain, dark edging, and matte black fixtures create a crisp contrast against the gray tile.
The vanity area softens the look with Repose Gray painted cabinetry, Manhattan Gray quartz, white rectangular sinks, and updated mirror and lighting placement.
The Arctic Glacier flooring adds a lighter stone-look surface that keeps the room from feeling too dark. Mindful Gray walls and Repose Gray trim complete the soft neutral palette.
The result is a compact master bathroom that feels clean, efficient, and more custom.
Construction Story
This project began with a clear goal: remove the older tub and shower layout and rebuild the bathroom around a more useful shower-centered design.
Once the jacuzzi tub, old shower, vanity, flooring, and trim were removed, the space could be reworked for the new layout. Plumbing was adjusted so the former tub area could support the new tile shower. Electrical was updated for better vanity lighting, a new shower light, and improved switching.
The shower became the most detailed part of the remodel. The team coordinated tile layout, niche placement, bench construction, waterproofing, accent ribbon alignment, drain placement, and finish edging so the shower would feel intentional from every angle.
As the project moved forward, the room came together with LVP flooring, Manhattan Gray quartz, Repose Gray cabinetry, new lighting, mirrors, trim, paint, and bathroom accessories.
Near completion, Wichita Home Works refined the last details, including cabinetry, shelves, bath hardware, mirrors, paint touch-ups, door completion, and final walkthrough preparation. The finished bathroom shows how a small master bath can gain major function and personality through a well-planned shower conversion and storage upgrade.
