Wichita Home Works completed this garage addition and master bathroom remodel in Wichita, Kansas for homeowners who wanted to improve both the function of their home and the usability of their garage area.

The project added a new garage bay, expanded the driveway, improved sidewalk and ramp access, updated exterior doors, refreshed the garage exterior, and created a more finished garage interior. At the same time, the master bathroom, master bedroom entry, hallway, and laundry area were updated to improve daily comfort and accessibility.

The finished project gives the home more usable garage space, better exterior circulation, a cleaner connection between the garage and house, and a refreshed bathroom with low-maintenance shower materials, grab bars, a folding teak shower seat, updated flooring, and wider door openings.

The Homeowner’s Vision

The goal was to create a more useful garage and improve key interior spaces that support everyday living.

The existing garage layout did not provide the amount of space or access the homeowners wanted. The new design expanded the garage footprint, added a larger overhead door, improved the driveway approach, and created better sidewalk and ramp access between the garage, porch, and home.

Inside, the homeowners wanted to update the master bathroom and nearby rooms with a cleaner, more accessible layout. The master bathroom plan kept the compact footprint but improved the shower, vanity area, doorway, flooring, and storage details. The laundry room and bedroom openings were also updated to improve flow and usability.

Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the garage addition, roofline, driveway, ramp, sidewalk layout, garage door placement, exterior doors, master bathroom layout, shower design, accessibility features, flooring transitions, barn doors, trim, stain, paint, and finish selections.

Scope of Work

Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through concrete, framing, garage construction, roofing, siding, interior remodeling, finish work, and final closeout.

Garage Addition and Site Preparation

The garage portion began with demolition of selected exterior materials, old garage components, existing concrete, driveway areas, sidewalk sections, and related framing needed to prepare for the addition.

The new garage addition was designed to tie into the existing garage and home. The layout included a new garage bay, an expanded driveway, new sidewalk areas, ramp access, entry steps, and improved circulation around the garage and porch area.

This phase was important because the garage addition was not only about adding square footage. It also needed to improve how vehicles, people, and daily traffic move around the property.

Concrete, Driveway, Sidewalk and Ramp

The project included substantial concrete work.

Wichita Home Works coordinated removal of existing driveway and sidewalk areas, new garage footing work, new garage slab preparation, driveway concrete, sidewalk concrete, ramp access, landings, steps, steel reinforcement, grading, backfill, and cleanup.

The finished concrete layout gives the homeowners a more usable driveway, better garage access, and a safer, cleaner walking path between the garage, porch, and home.

Garage Framing and Roof Tie-In

The garage addition was framed with new exterior walls, an overhead garage door opening, exterior door openings, attic access, roof trusses, roof decking, wall sheathing, soffit, fascia, and a roofline designed to continue the existing hip roof form.

The new roof was tied into the existing garage so the addition would feel like a natural extension of the original structure. The garage received an 18-foot by 7-foot raised panel insulated garage door with steel back, along with reinstallation of the existing garage door opener.

The project also included new exterior doors and a larger opening between the home and garage for improved access.

Roofing, Siding, Gutters and Exterior Paint

The garage addition roof was finished with CertainTeed Landmark Climate Series Resawn Shake shingles and matching ridge cap where the new roof tied into the existing garage.

The exterior was finished with 12-inch Select Cedarmill Hardie lap siding, Hardie Roughsawn corner trim, LP Smart soffit and fascia details, clay gutters, downspouts, and paint selected to coordinate with the existing home.

These exterior updates helped the new garage addition blend with the property instead of looking like a separate structure.

Garage Interior, Electrical and Lighting

The new garage area was insulated, drywalled, finished, and painted to create a cleaner and more usable interior.

Electrical work included outlets on the east and west walls, an outlet for the garage door opener, nine LED puck lights in the garage ceiling, exterior lighting near the garage door and entry door, and updated switching. The lighting plan was reviewed in the field so the finished garage would support everyday use, visibility, and future flexibility.

The finished garage is brighter, more practical, and more comfortable to use than a basic unfinished garage addition.

Master Bathroom Remodel

The master bathroom was updated within a compact footprint, with a focus on accessibility, durability, and cleaner finishes.

The remodel included removal of the existing vanity, mirror, medicine cabinet, chair rail, beadboard, flooring, shower surround, shower fixtures, ceiling texture, door, casing, and selected framing. The doorway was expanded for a barn door opening, and blocking was added for grab bars and a shower bench.

The new shower includes a Kerdi shower pan, Moroccan Conc Hex Taupe shower floor tile, Onyx Dorian Gloss Smooth shower wall panels, an Onyx Dorian recessed caddy, three Onyx grab bars, stainless Delta shower fixtures, and a teak folding shower seat.

The bathroom also received a customer-provided pedestal sink, stainless faucet, reset toilet, new vanity light, medicine cabinet, towel ring, robe hooks, toilet paper holder, grab bar near the toilet, painted walls, and updated trim.

Bedroom, Hallway and Laundry Updates

The remodel also improved several areas connected to the master bathroom and garage.

The master bedroom doorway was widened and updated with a new 36-inch mahogany door. The laundry room received doorway updates, a barn door, flooring, ceiling texture work, wall updates, and finish touch-ups. The hallway received ceiling texture, paint, trim, and flooring updates.

The flooring package included Coretec Plus Carolina Pine LVP in the laundry room, hallway, hall closet, hall bathroom, master bedroom, master bedroom closet, and master bathroom. The flooring was installed to continue the existing LVP direction from the living room, helping the remodeled areas feel connected.

Trim, Doors, Paint and Finish Details

Finish carpentry included mahogany baseboards, base shoe, door trim, casing, barn door hardware, stained wood details, an oak cabinet above the toilet, and trim adjustments around the updated openings.

Paint and stain work helped connect new materials to the existing home. The bathroom, hallway, laundry room, and bedroom received paint and touch-ups in the areas affected by construction, while stained wood trim and doors were matched as closely as possible to the home’s existing finishes.

Exterior finish work also included porch railing, handrail, door caulking, paint touch-ups, and final refinements.

Design and Finish Details

This project has a traditional exterior style with practical transitional interior updates.

The garage addition was designed to blend with the existing home through matching rooflines, neutral exterior paint, lap siding, clay gutters, and a classic raised-panel garage door. The finished garage feels like a natural extension of the home rather than an obvious add-on.

Inside, the bathroom balances accessibility and comfort. The Onyx Dorian shower walls are clean and low-maintenance, while the hex tile shower floor adds texture. Stainless fixtures, grab bars, a teak folding shower seat, and a recessed caddy make the shower easier to use without making it feel institutional.

The Coretec Carolina Pine LVP flooring brings warmth to the bedroom, hallway, laundry, and bathroom areas. Mahogany trim and stained doors preserve the home’s existing wood character while giving the remodeled areas a more finished look.
