Wichita Home Works completed this kitchen, master bathroom, hall bathroom, and main-floor remodel near Halstead, Kansas for homeowners who wanted a more cohesive and updated home.

This project touched several important daily-use spaces. The kitchen was redesigned with new cabinetry, quartz countertops, a new pantry layout, floating shelves, a custom range hood enclosure, updated plumbing, updated electrical, new backsplash tile, and new flooring. The living room and hallway were refreshed with new flooring, baseboards, paint, and a modern stair railing with stainless cable. The master bathroom and hall bathroom were both updated with new tile, fixtures, cabinetry, countertops, lighting, and fresh finishes.

The finished remodel created a cleaner, brighter, and more connected main floor. Instead of treating each room as a separate project, the design pulled the kitchen, dining area, living room, hallway, stair area, laundry room, master bathroom, and hall bathroom into one coordinated transformation.

The Homeowner’s Vision

Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the kitchen cabinet layout, pantry configuration, island, range hood, floating shelves, bathroom layouts, shower tile, tub surround, flooring, railing, paint colors, cabinet colors, countertop selections, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and final finish coordination.

The final design created a more polished main floor with better storage, stronger visual flow, and updated spaces that feel connected.

Scope of Work

Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through mechanical updates, cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, paint, trim, final details, cleaning, and closeout.

The project included:

Kitchen Remodel

The kitchen was one of the main focal points of the remodel.

Wichita Home Works removed the existing window, backsplash, sink, faucet, garbage disposal, countertops, upper cabinets, lower cabinets, island cabinets, oven hood, pantry door and shelving, part of the pantry wall, dining bench areas, flooring, fireplace components, flue, selected drywall, baseboards, and built-in elements near the fireplace.

The new kitchen was rebuilt with Waypoint shaker-style cabinetry. The perimeter cabinets were finished in Sage, while the island cabinets were finished in Rye. This created a soft two-tone look with warmth and contrast.

The kitchen received Calacatta Tree quartz countertops, a Blanco Truffle center-drain undermount sink, a Delta matte black pull-down faucet, a matte black beverage faucet, and a reverse osmosis drinking water system.

The backsplash was finished with Daltile Stagecraft 3×12 white field tile in a half-offset pattern. The clean white tile brightens the kitchen and gives the space a classic but updated backdrop.

Pantry, Floating Shelves and Range Hood

The pantry was redesigned with new framing, cabinet fronts, and site-built shelving. This gave the kitchen better storage while helping the pantry feel like part of the new cabinet plan.

Wichita Home Works also crafted and installed floating maple shelving on the kitchen walls. These shelves add warmth, display space, and a custom detail that breaks up the cabinet layout.

The range hood became another important design feature. The new hood enclosure was built with a maple skin to coordinate with the floating shelves and island finish direction. This helped the cooking wall feel intentional and custom.

Living Room, Hallway and Stair Railing

The living room and hallway were updated so the new kitchen would flow into the rest of the main floor.

The remodel included removal of flooring, baseboards, newel posts, balusters, stair railing, and selected drywall areas that needed repair. New Happy Feet Urban Design Plank LVP flooring was installed through the kitchen, laundry room, dining room, living room, entryway, and hallway.

The stair railing was rebuilt with maple newel posts, maple railing, and horizontal stainless steel tension cables. This gave the stair area a cleaner and more open look while creating a stronger connection between the kitchen, living room, and entry areas.

New baseboards, trim details, painted walls, and Tricorn Black interior doors helped the main floor feel refreshed and cohesive.

Master Bathroom Remodel

The master bathroom was redesigned with a more modern layout and finish palette.

The remodel included removal of the existing vanity, countertop, mirrors, lights, toilet, tub, shower surround, window, baseboards, and related fixtures. The new layout included a half wall for the shower bench, a new black vinyl transom picture window, updated vanity cabinetry, tile flooring, quartz countertops, matte black fixtures, and a custom tile shower.

The master shower was built with a Schluter shower pan and curb, waterproof wall preparation, Liberty Pure matte penny round shower floor tile, Modern Wood Chevron Maple 16×48 shower wall tile, matte black edging, matte black shower shelves, and matte black plumbing fixtures.

Calacatta Tree quartz was used on the vanity countertop, shower bench top, half wall top, and curb top. This helped tie the shower and vanity together with one consistent surface material.

The master bathroom floor was finished with Newport Matte 12×24 Pier tile. The vanity area received Natural Maple Rye cabinetry, large rectangle sinks, matte black faucets, and Arctic White herringbone backsplash tile.

Hall Bathroom Remodel

The hall bathroom was also updated with new cabinetry, tile, fixtures, flooring, lighting, and paint.

The existing vanity, countertop, toilet, mirror, vanity light, tub and shower surround, tile flooring, underlayment, and selected drywall were removed. A new Elmbrook white alcove soaker tub was installed with a tiled shower surround.

The hall shower walls were finished with Mythology Santorini glazed wall tile from the tub to the ceiling. A matte black Schluter shelf added useful storage and coordinated with the matte black plumbing fixtures.

The hall bathroom floor was finished with Newport Matte 12×24 tile. The vanity received a Waypoint Natural Maple Rye cabinet, Calacatta Tree quartz countertop, white rectangle sink, and a vertical Arctic White herringbone backsplash and sidesplash.

Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC

The kitchen, bathrooms, and main floor received extensive behind-the-scenes updates.

Kitchen plumbing included relocating the refrigerator water line, relocating the gas line for the stove, installing the reverse osmosis system, and completing final sink, faucet, beverage faucet, refrigerator, and drain connections.

Bathroom plumbing included a relocated master toilet line, new shower valve and drain layout, vanity sink rough-ins, new toilets, vanity faucets, tub and shower fixtures, diverters, hand showers, shower heads, and matte black trim.

Electrical work included kitchen outlet updates, island outlet reuse, pendant light relocation, backsplash outlet updates, sconce wiring, range hood power, pantry outlet, dining lighting, bathroom fan installation, vanity lighting, GFCI outlets, puck lighting, switch and outlet updates, and finish electrical.

HVAC work included range hood vent relocation and exhaust venting for the bathroom fans.

Drywall, Paint and Finish Carpentry

The remodel included drywall repairs and new drywall in areas affected by demolition, framing, tile, cabinet removal, fireplace removal, ceiling work, and bathroom updates.

The kitchen, living room, entryway, hallway, and bathroom ceilings were skim coated and finished with knockdown texture where needed. Walls were repaired and prepared for paint.

The main remodeled areas were painted with High Reflective White walls, with flat white ceilings and trim paint matched to the home’s finish plan. Main-floor interior doors were painted Tricorn Black, adding contrast and a more updated look.

Finish carpentry included baseboards, cabinet installation, pantry shelving, floating shelves, maple hood enclosure, stair railing, newel posts, cabinet trim, bathroom vanities, linen cabinet details, and final touch-ups.

Flooring

The main floor received Happy Feet Urban Design Plank LVP flooring through the kitchen, laundry room, dining room, living room, entryway, and hallway. This created a consistent flooring surface across the remodeled areas and helped the home feel more connected.

The master bathroom and hall bathroom received tile flooring, giving each bathroom a durable, more finished surface suited to wet areas.

Flooring transitions, stair nose details, and reducers were coordinated so the new materials would connect cleanly between rooms.

Design and Finish Details

This project has a warm transitional style with modern accents.

The kitchen combines Sage perimeter cabinets, a Rye island, white tile, quartz countertops, matte black plumbing, maple floating shelves, and a maple range hood. The result feels soft, warm, and current.

The main floor updates bring in modern contrast through Tricorn Black interior doors and stainless cable stair railing. These details help the home feel more updated without overpowering the warmer wood tones and soft cabinetry.

The master bathroom carries the modern look further with matte black fixtures, a black transom window, chevron-style shower tile, penny round shower floor tile, quartz shower surfaces, and Natural Maple Rye cabinetry.

The hall bathroom uses a similar language with matte black fixtures, tile flooring, a tiled tub surround, Natural Maple Rye cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a clean white wall finish.

Construction Story

This project began with a full reset of the home’s main living spaces. The kitchen, fireplace area, pantry, living room, stair railing, master bathroom, hall bathroom, flooring, and trim all needed to come together as one coordinated remodel.

Once the older finishes were removed, Wichita Home Works rebuilt the kitchen around better storage, cleaner cabinet lines, and a more open relationship to the dining and living areas. Removing the dated fireplace feature helped the main level feel more open and gave the kitchen and living room a fresher connection.

The main floor transformation continued with new LVP flooring, updated stair railing, black interior doors, fresh paint, and trim details. The stainless cable railing became one of the strongest design updates because it made the stair area feel lighter and more modern.

The bathroom work added another layer of craftsmanship. The master shower required careful tile layout, waterproofing, quartz surface coordination, and matte black fixture placement. The hall bathroom brought in a new tub, tile surround, new vanity, tile floor, and updated fixtures.
