Bathroom Renovation Trends in Wichita: Creating a Spa-Like Retreat

Bathroom Renovation Trends in Wichita Creating a Spa-Like Retreat

Many Wichita homeowners are transforming their bathrooms from utilitarian spaces into luxurious, spa-like retreats. Today’s bathroom renovations focus on creating serene environments that promote relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you’re aiming for a modern minimalist aesthetic or a warm, traditional ambiance, understanding the latest trends in tile selection, fixture updates, and overall design can help you create your dream bathroom.

1. Embracing Natural Elements and Textures:

  • Natural Stone Tiles: Stone tiles, such as marble, granite, or slate, are gaining popularity for their unique textures and natural beauty. They add a touch of elegance and create a calming, organic feel.
  • Wood Accents: Incorporating wood accents, such as floating vanities, open shelving, or even wood-look tiles, brings warmth and a sense of nature into the bathroom.
  • Living Walls and Plants: Adding greenery to your bathroom not only improves air quality but also creates a tranquil, spa-like atmosphere. Small potted plants, hanging planters, or even a vertical living wall can transform the space.
  • Large-Format Tiles: Large-format tiles create a seamless look and minimize grout lines, making the bathroom appear more spacious and easier to clean.
  • Textured Tiles: Textured tiles, such as those with a wood grain, stone, or geometric pattern, add depth and visual interest to the walls and floors.
  • Statement Backsplashes: Create a focal point with a bold and eye-catching backsplash behind the vanity or in the shower. Consider using mosaic tiles, patterned tiles, or even a natural stone slab.
  • Subway Tile Reinvented: While classic subway tile remains a staple, homeowners are exploring new ways to use it. Consider using larger subway tiles, arranging them in unique patterns (such as herringbone), or opting for a colored grout to add a modern twist.

3. Fixture Updates: Functionality Meets Style:

  • Freestanding Tubs: Freestanding tubs are a luxurious addition to any bathroom, creating a spa-like focal point. They come in various styles, from modern and minimalist to classic and ornate.
  • Walk-in Showers: Walk-in showers with frameless glass enclosures create a seamless and spacious feel. Consider adding features like rain showerheads, body jets, and built-in niches for storage.
  • Smart Toilets: Smart toilets offer advanced features like heated seats, bidet functions, and automatic flushing, enhancing comfort and hygiene.
  • Floating Vanities: Floating vanities create a sense of lightness and spaciousness, while also providing ample storage.
  • Matte Black and Brushed Gold Fixtures: These finishes are rising in popularity, adding modern sophistication.

4. Creating a Relaxing Atmosphere:

  • Lighting: Layered lighting is essential for creating a relaxing ambiance. Incorporate ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Consider dimmer switches to control the mood.
  • Sound Systems: Integrate a Bluetooth speaker or a built-in sound system to enjoy your favorite music or podcasts while relaxing in the bath or shower.
  • Aromatherapy: Incorporate aromatherapy diffusers or scented candles to create a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere.
  • Heated Floors: Heated floors provide a luxurious touch, keeping your feet warm and comfortable during the colder months.
  • Declutter and Organize: A clutter-free bathroom is essential for creating a spa-like retreat. Utilize storage solutions like built-in niches, drawer organizers, and open shelving to keep your bathroom organized and tidy.

5. Wichita Specific Considerations:

  • Moisture Control: Wichita’s climate can experience significant humidity. Ensure proper ventilation in your bathroom renovation project to prevent mold and mildew growth. Consider installing a powerful exhaust fan and using moisture-resistant materials.
  • Water Conservation: Opt for water-efficient fixtures, such as low-flow toilets and showerheads, to conserve water and reduce your utility bills.
  • Winter Warmth: Consider radiant floor heating to combat the cold Wichita winters.

I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. I grew up around construction, remodeling, maintenance and all of that, my dad was one of those fix anything types and so we never called someone to come work on the house. I also was able to tag along with my dad when he had a job of his own to complete that had to do with construction or remodel or repair. Throughout high school and college I worked in the trades doing everything from carpentry to concrete in both residential and commercial applications. I also ran my own cabinet shop while in high school and college and knew that I wanted to work for myself and go out on my own in business, I graduated with a Bachelors of science in business administration and small busienss management in 2014. I met my wife Danielle while working maintenance for our churches summer camp, Danielle and her family were all from Wichita Kansas. After graduation I married Danielle and we moved to Wichita Kansas to start our own journey. I started Wichita Home works in 2015 with just one main floor kitchen remodel and one guy doing the work, it went very well and the rest is history. We built some key relationships along the way while learning and building wichita home works, we spun off quite a few businesses and divisions such as Integrity trade services, and complete concrete solutions, mainly out of necessity. We found it increasingly difficult to find trades that would live up to our high expectations and therefore we decided to do it ourself.
