Project Overview

Wichita Home Works completed this Glen Wood master bathroom refresh in Wichita, Kansas for homeowners who wanted to update their primary bathroom without completely changing the room’s overall footprint.

The project focused on the master bathroom and water closet. The existing tub, shower tile, countertops, backsplash, wainscot tile, floor tile, lighting, fans, and bathroom accessories were updated while key layout elements remained familiar. The finished bathroom now has a more refined look with a freestanding tub, new quartz vanity tops, updated shower tile, new floor tile, fresh wall finishes, better ventilation, and warmer storage details.

The master bathroom plan shows a large main bathroom area of approximately 104 square feet, a separate water closet, two vanity areas, a freestanding tub location, and a dedicated shower area with a bench and niche.

The overall style is transitional with soft spa-inspired details. The refreshed bathroom uses warm neutrals, stone-look tile, quartz surfaces, maple shelving, brushed nickel and bronze accents, and a cleaner tub and shower layout to make the room feel more polished and comfortable.

The Homeowner’s Vision

The goal was to make the master bathroom feel cleaner, softer, and more current while keeping the features that still worked well for the home.

The homeowners wanted to replace the built-in tub with a freestanding tub, refresh the shower with new tile, lower the shower threshold, update the vanity tops, add new tile flooring, improve lighting, install new bath fans, relocate HVAC vents into the vanity toe kicks, and add floating shelves above the toilet. The existing vanity faucets and mirrors were preserved and reset as part of the finished design.

Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the tub replacement, shower layout, bench, niche, tile selections, quartz countertops, vanity backsplash, tub wainscot, floor tile, ventilation, lighting, toe-kick vent locations, floating shelves, heated towel rack, paint, stain coordination, and final finish details.

The final design created a master bath that feels refreshed, open, and more spa-like while still fitting naturally with the home.

Scope of Work

Wichita Home Works coordinated the project from design and demolition through plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, tile, countertops, tub installation, trim, paint, staining, finish work, cleanup, and follow-up support.

The project included:

Master Bathroom Preparation

The refresh began by removing the existing tub, tub faucet, vanity countertops, backsplash, wainscot tile, floor tile in the bathroom and water closet, bathroom lighting, bath fans, towel bars, shower tile, shower faucets, shower valve, and shower drywall.

The existing mirrors were saved for reset, and the existing vanity faucets were saved for reinstallation. This helped preserve selected features while updating the finishes and function around them.

The bathroom was then prepared for new plumbing, tile, quartz countertops, bath fans, lighting, flooring, and finish work.

Freestanding Tub Area

One of the biggest visual changes was replacing the built-in tub with a freestanding Jacuzzi Serafina 59-inch acrylic tub.

The new tub has a cleaner, more sculptural look than the previous built-in tub setup. It creates a softer focal point along the glass-block window wall and makes the bathroom feel more open.

The tub received a Delta Cassidy floor-mounted tub filler with integrated diverter. This fixture adds a refined detail beside the freestanding tub and helps make the tub area feel intentional.

Fitch Cloud 12×24 tile was installed as the tub wainscot, coordinating the tub wall with the new bathroom floor and overall tile palette.

Master Shower Remodel

The shower was refreshed with new waterproofing, new tile, a bench, a large niche, updated plumbing fixtures, and a lower-threshold design.

The master shower plan included a dedicated shower area of approximately 4 feet by 6 feet 9 inches, with a 30-inch by 14-inch bench and a large niche on the east wall.

The shower walls and bench were finished with B-Natural Ecru 24×24 tile. The shower floor was finished with Mosaic B Natural Ecru 2×2 tumbled tile. The niche used Savoy Brown picket-pattern tile, adding texture and contrast within the otherwise soft neutral shower design.

A Pure Bronze Kerdi drain was installed at the shower floor, adding a warm metal detail that coordinates with the natural tile palette.

Shower Fixtures and Plumbing

The shower plumbing was updated for a more complete shower experience.

The scope included a new Delta shower valve, Brizo six-function diverter, stationary shower head, hand shower, three body sprayer rough-in valves, Delta wide rain shower head, Delta Cassidy diverter valve, Delta Cassidy bath diverter trim, and body sprayers.

This gave the shower more flexibility and a more spa-like function than a basic single-head shower.

The plumbing work also included resetting the existing vanity sink faucets and drains, along with the freestanding tub rough-in and final fixture installation.

Vanity Countertops and Sinks

Both master bathroom vanities received new Calcatta Lavasa quartz countertops with eased edges.

The new tops included two white oval porcelain sinks. The existing vanity faucets were reinstalled, which helped update the vanity area while preserving fixtures the homeowners still wanted to use.

Maple cabinet skins were added to the ends of the vanities, giving the existing cabinets a more finished appearance after the countertop and backsplash updates.

The vanity backsplash used Savoy Brown picket-pattern tile, tying the vanity area back to the shower niche and creating a more coordinated material story across the bathroom.

Bathroom and Water Closet Flooring

The master bathroom and water closet received new tile flooring.

Fitch Cloud 12×24 tile was installed over Ditra XL underlayment in a half-offset pattern parallel to the vanities. The same tile family was used at the tub wainscot, helping the floor and tub area feel connected.

This floor tile gives the bathroom a durable, updated foundation and a softer stone-look appearance.

Water Closet Update

The separate water closet was refreshed as part of the master bathroom project.

The existing toilet was reset, the floor tile was replaced, ventilation and lighting were updated, and three maple floating shelves were installed above the toilet.

The floating shelves add warm storage and display space while helping the water closet feel more finished rather than purely functional.

Lighting, Bath Fans and Electrical

The master bathroom received updated lighting and ventilation.

Two customer-provided vanity lights were installed in the existing vanity light locations. LED puck lights were added in the water closet and master bathroom ceiling, and dimmer switching was used for the puck lights.

Two Delta 110 CFM bath fans were installed: one in the water closet and one near the shower. The fans were vented to support better moisture control and daily comfort.

An outlet was also added for a heated towel rack on the north wall, giving the bathroom a more comfortable and upscale daily-use feature.

HVAC Toe-Kick Vent Relocation

Two existing floor vents were relocated into the vanity toe kicks.

This allowed the new tile floor and vanity area to feel cleaner while preserving heating and cooling function in the bathroom. It is a small detail visually, but it makes a meaningful difference in how finished the room feels.

Drywall, Paint and Stain

Drywall repairs were completed where the old backsplash, tub surround, shower tile, lighting, fans, and towel rack electrical work affected the walls and ceiling.

The bathroom ceiling received flat white paint. The bathroom walls were primed and painted in the selected finish color. The new vanity end panels and floating shelves were stained and sealed to coordinate with the existing trim and cabinetry.

This phase helped blend new materials with the existing home character.

Trim, Mirrors and Finish Details

Existing baseboards were reinstalled in the bathroom and water closet. Existing mirrors were reset higher to accommodate the new backsplash installation.

Three maple floating shelves were crafted and installed above the toilet, and a heated towel rack was installed on the north wall where power had been added.

Final details included plumbing trim, electrical trim, vanity fixtures, shower fixtures, towel accessories, paint touch-ups, shelf adjustments, cleanup, and walkthrough preparation.

Design and Finish Details

This project has a transitional bathroom style with soft spa-inspired finishes.

The freestanding tub gives the room a cleaner and more open focal point. The shower tile uses warm neutral tones and larger-format wall tile, while the Savoy Brown picket niche adds detail without making the shower feel busy.

The Calcatta Lavasa quartz countertops brighten the vanity areas. The oval sinks soften the vanity lines, while the reused faucets help the new surfaces blend with the home’s existing fixture style.

The Fitch Cloud floor tile and tub wainscot create a calm, consistent base. Maple shelves and vanity end panels add warmth, while the updated bath fans, lighting, toe-kick vents, and heated towel rack improve comfort and daily function.

The finished bathroom feels refreshed rather than overdone. It is updated, clean, and comfortable while still feeling connected to the home.

Construction Story

This project began with the goal of refreshing a large master bathroom while keeping the familiar layout that already worked for the homeowners.

The early work focused on removing older surfaces and fixtures so the bathroom could be rebuilt with new tile, new countertops, updated ventilation, updated lighting, and a more open tub area. Once the built-in tub and older shower finishes were removed, the freestanding tub and updated shower layout could become the new focal points.

The shower required careful coordination because it included a bench, large niche, updated plumbing, waterproofing, new tile, and a lower-threshold approach. The tub area also required detailed planning so the freestanding tub, floor-mounted filler, wainscot tile, and glass-block window wall would work together.

As the project moved into the finish phase, the room came together through quartz countertops, tile flooring, vanity backsplash, tub wainscot, lighting, bath fans, floating shelves, mirrors, and paint. The final work focused on making the bathroom feel polished and ready for daily use.

After completion, Wichita Home Works continued supporting the homeowners with follow-up items such as shelf tightening and bath fan service. That follow-through helped make sure the finished bathrooms continued to function the way the homeowners expected.
